UPDATE: EFCC Denies Blocking Diezani’s Attempt To Return To Nigeria For Trial

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, September 21, denied blocking an attempt by embattled former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to return to Nigeria to face trial.

The former minister is facing multiple corruption and money laundering allegations during her tenure as minister.

She is also being investigated by the British and American authorities, and has been living in the United Kingdom for two years where she is receiving treatment for cancer.

Very wrong headline it was! How can EFCC be seeking her extradition & same time blocking it? Please read this report for what transpired.

Read the report below:-

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court Abuja, on September 20, dismissed an application brought by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, seeking to be joined as a defendant in the trial of Jide Omokore, and also struck out the eighth count in which her name was listed.

Omokore, chairman, Atlantic Energy Brass Development and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept, is facing a nine-count charge along with Victor Briggs, a former Managing Director, National Petroleum Development Company; Abiye Membere, a former Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production at the NNPC, and David Mbanefo, a former Manager, Planning and Commercial at NNPC, for a $1.6 billion fraud.

Counsel for Diezani, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, had on September 18 filed the application, based on the fact that her name was listed in the eighth count, and sought for amendment of the charge, to include her as the seventh defendant, “in order to give her the opportunity to defend herself”.

In the said application, Diezani also requested that the court direct the Attorney General of the Federation to facilitate her appearance in court on the next adjourned date in October 2017.

Counsel for the EFCC, M.S. Abubakar, in an 18-paragraph counter-affidavit, however, vehemently opposed the application, arguing that, ‘the applicant realized she was being investigated, and she absconded abroad and sometimes in March this year operatives were in London, but her lawyers refused to allow the operatives interview her.’

He added that: ‘My lord, this present application is a plot by the applicant to enable her escape prosecution in London, also to enable her come to Nigeria and scuttle the ongoing case which has already gotten to an advanced stage.’

After hearing arguments, Justice Dimgba, declined to grant the application, and instead, struck out the eighth count in which Diezani’s name appeared.

The trial of Omokore and his co-defendants continues on October 5.”

Lagos Is Working: Lagos Announces Restriction On Ikorodu Road, Fix Fadeyi Pedestrian Bridge

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said that there would be partial restriction of movement on Ikorodu Road to enable it replace the dilapidated and disused steel pedestrian bridge at Fadeyi Bus Stop with a new footbridge.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Olujimi Hotonu, the Government said that in its continuous drive to protect the lives of pedestrians on the highway, the disused pedestrian bridge would be pulled down to give way for a new one worthy of the status of the State.

To effect the removal of the bridge, the State Government said the main carriage lanes of the Ikorodu Road would be closed to traffic for two nights on Saturday, 23rd September, between 11pm and 6am, and Sunday 24th between 11pm and 4am, while the service lanes will be open to traffic.

The Government also said all traffic both inward Lagos and outward Ojota will be diverted to the service lanes.

While soliciting for the cooperation and support of all road users especially motorists plying the corridor to observe all the precaution signs on the road, the State Government said it had put in place effective traffic management strategies to manage the traffic during the period of closure.

The Government said the notice of partial restriction of the road became expedient to enlighten motorists and other road users to utilize alternative routes to avoid delay as well as obey traffic officers deployed on the road to ease movement.

While regretting the inconveniences the partial restriction would cause, the Government appealed for caution, noting that the ultimate goal of the plan was to safeguard lives and improve traffic along the corridor.

He said the management of NCS had implemented a policy of rewarding good deeds and
punishment for those who compromised.

He announced that he would meet with the ambassador of Turkey to discuss the continuous importation of containers of ammunition into Nigeria.

Customs would continue to subject all containers to 100 per cent examination “to safeguard lives of citizens.

“Customs has to go beyond examination because none of the importers has come to pay duties on those vehicles intercepted in August.

“Some of the vehicles are customised..What we are after is to collect duties on any vehicle coming into the country.

“Section 147 of Customs & Excise Management Act (CEMA) gives right to Customs to enter any premises even without search warrant.

“Also, Section 158 of CEMA gives Customs the right to stop and search at any time.”

He, however, noted that since the container belonged to same importer of 1,100 refiles intercepted on Sept.11, investigation was ongoing to fish out those connected with it.

No Retreat, No Surrender: We Will Continue Agitation For Biafra’s Freedom — IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful said the Nigerian Army lack the constitutional power to declare any group as a terrorist group, saying that it will ignore the declaration by the Army and any other group and continue its agitation for Biafra restoration.

We in IPOB condemn the illegal declaration made by Nigerian army labeling the peaceful freedom fighting organization as IPOB as a terrorist organization.

We found the statement made by Nigerian army a laughable and caricature the Nigerian Army is making of itself, we will continue doing what we are doing which is peaceful agitation for Biafra freedom.

“Whatever be the case Nigerian Army has no right or power to labelling IPOB a terrorist group whiles the case still in the court. It is the duty of Nigerian court to decide the case between the Nigerian government and IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

Photos Of Missiles Being Loaded On Nigerian Fighter Jets For Boko Haram

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has just concluded Operation RUWAN WUTA, which was essentially an intensive day and night aerial bombardment of locations where Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) were attempting to recolonize in Northeastern Nigeria.

An integral part of the Operation, which lasted from 7 – 16 September 2017, was a medical outreach programme that was targeted at providing free medical treatment to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps near Maiduguri, the Sambisa general area and Rann, in particular.

The NAF also conducted free surgeries for IDPs that needed surgical interventions, airlifting them to the NAF Medical Centre in Maiduguri where necessary.

In all, 700 IDPs in Rann alone received free medical treatment while free surgical interventions were carried out on 146 IDPs out of a total of 1,032 that were screened in all the beneficiary IDP camps. As at 20 September 2017, the free surgical interventions included 90 eye surgeries and 56 general surgeries while 60 other IDPs received free medicated eyeglasses from the NAF.

The surgical interventions on the IDPs are still ongoing and would come to an end on 21 September 2017.

On 16 September 2017, the concluding day of Operation RUWAN WUTA, the NAF successfully attacked some structures in Kote (near Bama), where BHTs were suspected to be holding a meeting. Kote was a BHT infested location, hosting significant BHT activities, as revealed by NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms. Air interdiction was conducted on the BHT structures in Kote with NAF Alpha Jet and the F-7Ni aircraft, which took turns to attack the enemy location with bombs.

Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) revealed that the targeted structures were destroyed. It is recalled that the objective of Operation RUWAN WUTA was to ‘rain significant fire’ on BHT hideouts thereby further degrading the ability of the terrorists to freely operate and consequently giving advantage to friendly surface forces to gain momentum.

Accordingly, enemy locations, which were successfully attacked, with significant damage on the BHTs, include Parisu, Njimia, Zanari, Garin Maloma, Yale Market, Mungusum, Arra and Kote. A comprehensive BDA over the attacked locations after the 10-day operation revealed the complete absence of BHT activities.

To successfully execute the Operation, the NAF conducted a total of 129 missions in 180 sorties within a total of over 208 flying hours.

See The Low Key Guy Behind Davido, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay’s Hit Songs

The name Klem or Ikemefunna Nwanbonye doesn’t ring a bell to the average Nigerian music lover but hit songs like Sade by Davido, Yolo by Seyi Shay, Nackam by Yemi Alade, Applaudise and Gift by Iyanya are well-known songs.

Meet the serial hit songwriter who has been behind some of your favourite Nigerian pop songs. Klem, as he’s fondly called in this chat, talks about songwriting in Nigeria, his gains, trouble and aspiration.

Songwriting in the music industry

The song writing thing has not been that easy. The journey is not easy at all because the writing thing is not yet in Nigeria. Why I said it’s not easy is that people use your items at times and they don’t give you credit. You have to do much more so they can give you credit. It is not easy but when I started it was not easy and now by God’s grace, it’s paying.

Challenges faced so far

The challenges I have been facing is just the credit part. You write songs of people and they withhold the truth that you wrote it for them.

Give examples of people who have done that

I don’t want to mention it because there’re lots of them, but some people have been given me credit, people like Yemi Alade ,Seyi Shay, like the Ferrari I wrote for Yemi Alade she gave me credit. She always gives me credit. Seyi Shay gave me credit for Yolo Yolo I wrote for her.

Ikemefunna Nwanbonye, a.k.a Klem who is a songwriter
But then, Nigerian artist don’t want fans to know they use songwriters but now, they are beginning to appreciate and give credit.

Who have you written so far?

I wrote For my matter for Emmy Nyra, I wrote Nakam for Yemi Alade, Yolo Yolo for Seyi Shay, Glass House by 9ice, Sade for Davido also I wrote track 8 in his first album, and I wrote Appludise for Iyanya, and Gift for iyanya ft Don jazzy.

How did you write the songs, did you listen to the beat first or write first?

Mine is a gift anyway. Even lot of people come at times to tell me to teach them how to write, I don’t really know how to go about it because it is a gift, it is an inbuilt thing. At times the inspiration just comes, it is spiritual. And I also write when I listening to the beat, but mostly I write without listening to the beat because it comes naturally and I will just write it.

I prefer writing it before the producer; it sounds more natural without the beat.

How much did you charge?

I charge 1millon for top musicians, and I charge four hundred thousand for upcoming acts.

As a song writer did you think you deserve more as the terms of royalties?

Yeah, I deserve more; I’m not even talking for myself alone. I am talking about every other song writers because when they give you credit on the song you have written, it motivates you a lot.

Because you will write more, because you selling your song is just like “a mother that gives birth to a baby and that day the baby was snatched away from her, so anytime you see the baby you will be sad that the baby is not yours again.

If you write a song for someone and the person credit you, it gives you more client and people will patronize you because these artists get paid more than we song writers, so if they can credit us more, it will get us more clients and we will grow.

Who would you like to work with?

I worked with Davido, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay, 9ice, Don Jazzy, Iyanya, lot of them , I think the person I will like to work with now is 2Face (2BABA) am even working on it now, then ASA. Those are the people I would really like to work with because those are deep musician kind of people I like, they are deep thinkers, if you want to write for those people, they make you read and think before you write. Those are people I look forward to working with.

You are about to release your single. Do you think you will be successful as an artist?

The music thing is there, at first I started with music before I discovered music writing, I was singing, in fact, I threw out some single that blew up then before God now answered my prayer and opened my eyes in song writing. So, I know if I should release a single, I will be successful. It might take me little time but I know by God’s grace, i have written out some tracks that’ll really blow up.

You know human being have their own ways and God has his own way. So, the thing is, if God has given me that opportunity to throw out a single, then it does not really need anyone’s acceptance or permission.

And the thing is that, most of these celebrities have heard me singing so they will be like I should throw out my track, so they are already expecting me already.

Are you signed to any record label?

No, but I work for them, we work together just to create sounds.

When should Nigerians expect your singles?

Thay should be expecting it any moment from now, maybe next month.

What’s the title?

It is a funny tittle, SOKOYOKOTO

If accepted by Nigerian music audience, how would you feel?

It is just a normal thing to be surprised because human beings are full of surprises, but if I should be expecting, that means I will have to work hard on my music. Nigerians appreciate good musicians. When you give them what they want and the materials are ok why won’t they accept it. Lots of writers out there in U.S are appreciated.

Do you have plans to go for training and courses on songwriting?

Yes, I really need to go for that. Because, as a guy, I don’t know anything. The ones am displaying now are those that God has given to me. I need to go and acquire more knowledge.

I just want to get through with all the assignments I have here then I move on that, travel out to acquire more knowledge because being a song writer, we are entitled to some things I need to know. There are some benefits am not enjoying now because we know nothing about them here.

Do you engage a lawyer when signing contracts with artists?

Yes, I do.

Drop your comments!!
